topic 2.
Human risk factor.

90% of all traffic accidents are caused by human error - not technology. Topic 2 dispels the myth that only 'others' are risky drivers and shows how alcohol, drugs, stress and smartphones change perceptions.

The most important rules.

Core rules from topic 2

Rule 1

0.0‰ in the probationary period, 0.5‰ above

For novice drivers in the two-year probationary period and all drivers under 21, there is an absolute alcohol ban - 0.0 ‰. Over 21 and outside the probationary period, the limit is 0.5‰; from 1.1 ‰ it is a criminal offense (absolute inability to drive).

Rule 2

Drugs: Zero tolerance

Cannabis, cocaine, MDMA, amphetamines and heroin are sanctioned at any concentration detected - even if they were used days ago. THC can be detected in the blood for up to 24 hours and in the urine for up to 4 weeks. Consequences: fine, points, driving ban, MPU.

Rule 3

Smartphone ban is absolute

Picking up your cell phone — even just to look — costs €100 and 1 point. With danger: €150 and 2 points. Only hands-free use via Bluetooth/hands-free system and short voice control are permitted.

Rule 4

Fatigue is more dangerous than alcohol

17 hours without sleep corresponds to 0.5 ‰ alcohol, 24 hours already 1.0 ‰. Early warning signs: frequent yawning, burning eyes, deviation from lane. Coffee only postpones the problem — the only solution is sleep, ideally a 15-20 minute power nap.

Rule 5

Aggression behind the wheel

Pushing, flashing lights, tailgating and insults are not trivialities, but coercion (§ 240 StGB) with prison sentences. Stay calm, keep to the buffer zone, in an emergency, pull over to the right and dial 110.

Common mistakes.

What goes wrong in the theory test

Error 1

Underestimating residual alcohol

If you drink four beers in the evening, you will still have a lot of alcohol left in the morning. Rule of thumb: 0.1 ‰ degradation per hour - at 1.0 ‰ this means that it will only be roadworthy again after 10 hours.

Error 2

Consider the hands-free system as 'safe'

A phone call via Bluetooth also attracts attention. Studies show: the risk of accidents remains four times higher. In the exam, 'permissible but dangerous' is often expected to be correct - check depending on the context.

Error 3

Microsleep 'doesn't come to me'

Microsleep occurs without warning. At 100 km/h you cover 83 m blindly in 3 seconds - that's enough for any fatal accident.

Error 4

See cannabis as a 'light drug'

THC and heroin are considered the same under criminal law. Just 1 ng/ml THC in the blood leads to a fine (€500 + 2 points + 1 month driving ban for the first time).

Sample questions.

In theory test style

Question 1

You are on probation. What alcohol limit applies to you?

Answer0.0 ‰ – absolute ban on alcohol.

The rule applies to all novice drivers on their 2-year probationary period and all drivers under the age of 21, regardless of the probationary period.

Question 2

You are very tired. What is the only effective countermeasure?

AnswerA break with a short sleep (15-20 minutes).

Coffee, music, cold water or an open window only have a short-term effect. Fatigue can only be reduced through sleep.

Question 3

You use the cell phone in your hand while driving. What can happen?

AnswerFines, points in Flensburg, significantly increased risk of accidents and complicity in the event of damage.

100 € + 1 point in the standard case, with danger 150 € + 2 points and 1 month driving ban.

Connection to practice.

This is how the theme shows up 2 in your driving lesson

In your first few driving lessons you will learn how distracting it is to look at the speedometer or the navigation system. Your driving instructor will guide you specifically into stressful situations - stop-and-go on the A46, heavy city center traffic in Oberbilk - so that you get to know your own stress reactions before they become a problem in the exam or in everyday life.
