No TÜV test, no failure rate. Requirement: valid Class B driving license and minimum age of 18 years.

B96 is sufficient if your trailer has a maximum permissible total mass of 4,250 kg - typical for medium-sized caravans (~1.3-1.5 t) behind cars. You need BE for trailers over 3,500 kg or a trailer over 4,250 kg - typical for double horse trailers (2.4 t), large caravans, heavy boats, construction machinery. Yes - the key number 96 is harmonized across the EU (Directive 2006/126/EC, Annex I) and is recognized in all EU/EEA states. 4,250 kg applies everywhere in the EU. Outside the EU (Switzerland, UK, Türkiye, USA) please check national rules - some require additional proof. For traveling with a trailer, we recommend the international driving license (~16 €).

At the Düsseldorf Road Traffic Office, Höherweg 101: valid class B driving license (original), identity card, proof of training from the driving school (we issue it after completion), application form, administration fee ~25 €. Class B eye test and first aid do not need to be renewed. Processing time: 2-4 weeks. In many cases, we submit the documents directly for you.
