Rule 1
Hold ≤ 3 minutes or loading/unloading
Hold = Stop up to 3 minutes or for loading/unloading or getting in/out. Parking = everything above and beyond. In the 'restricted parking ban' (286), stopping is permitted but parking is prohibited.
Theory topic 10 · Düsseldorf.
As soon as you stop, stationary traffic begins. Topic 10 explains the difference between stopping and parking, all no-parking restrictions, the correct use of the parking disc and, above all, what you have to do if you cause damage while parking.
What you learn.
The most important rules.
Rule 1
Hold = Stop up to 3 minutes or for loading/unloading or getting in/out. Parking = everything above and beyond. In the 'restricted parking ban' (286), stopping is permitted but parking is prohibited.
Rule 2
Parking is prohibited within 10 meters of a St. Andrew's cross, in front of and behind a traffic light or stop sign - otherwise the view is blocked.
Rule 3
There is a 5 meter parking ban before and behind an intersection or junction - measured from the start/end of the shared roadway. Classic city trap.
Rule 4
Even a small scratch on the neighboring car means you have to wait. Rule of thumb: wait 30-60 minutes or call the police. A note on the window is NOT enough - it is a hit-and-run (§ 142 StGB).
Rule 5
For the next half or full hour AFTER arrival. Example: Arrival 2:17 p.m. → parking disc set to 2:30 p.m. Parking discs must be easy to read from the outside. Manipulation = fine.
Common mistakes.
Error 1
Parking on the sidewalk is only permitted if a traffic sign or marking specifically allows it. Otherwise: €55 + more if disabled + point.
Error 2
No matter how polite the note, without sufficient waiting time or a police report, it is a hit-and-run. Criminal proceedings possible, insurance does not pay.
Error 3
Forbidden - even if you just get something for a short time. Parking or stopping in front of yard entrances costs €35-55 and may trigger a tow.
Error 4
Limited stopping ban (286, crossed out): short stops for loading/unloading are permitted. Absolute (283, fully crossed out): nothing works. Standard exam question.

Connection to practice.
In Düsseldorf - especially in Oberbilk and Friedrichstadt - parking space is scarce. You practice parallel, perpendicular and diagonal parking down to the last detail. Your driving instructor will show you hot spots like Mindenerstrasse or Achenbachstrasse, where no-parking zones are easily overlooked. During the practical test, parking (longitudinal or transverse) is always part of the mandatory list.
FAQ.
